Making your own Sand Texture
In this tutorial we will make a sand
texture.
1
Go to File|New and and choose a size you'd like to
make your sand. I chose 200 x 200 pixels with a resolution
of 72, transparent, click Ok. To select our background
color, click on the forground color swatch and chose
your color. I entered into the RGB field 218-05-179,
click OK.

Edit
| Fill | Forground at 100% opacity
3 |
Filter | noise | add noise You can play around with
the amount of noice you'd like in your sand, I chose
21, Gaussian and be sure to check Monochromatic or
you will have very colorful sand, click OK. |

Well
this doesn't look too bad, but let's give it some
more depth. Click on the layer and drag it to the
layer icon, you'll now have a layer 1 copy.

5 |
With Layer 1 copy selected, Go to Filter |Stylize |
emboss. I chose and angle of 160 decrees (it also looks
nice a bit smaller) and a height of 3 pixels at 200%.
be sure to check preview so you can see the effect on
your image before you select. When you are happy with
it click Ok. |

6 |
Well
that sure is ugly. Don't fret, we're not done yet.
We need to change the layer mode to: Overlay |

7 |
Now you have your own sand texture to do with as you
please! You can use this in the Special Effects tutorial
if you'd like.
