Preset Manager
by Joyce Evans
The Preset Manager is another newcomer to Photoshop 6. It
lets you browse, save, delete, and rename custom shapes, brushes,
gradients, contours, patterns, and layer styles in one central
location. Included in Photoshop 6 is a library of presets.

|
Open a new file, From the
menu bar choose File>New |
2 |
|
Now from the menu bar choose
Edit>Preset Manager Click the down arrow next
to the Preset type. These are little views of the
options. |

|
As you can see there is plenty
of options available, but this isn't all. You can click
the load button and get even more. Click on
the Styles option then click Load. |

|
I choose the Glass buttons
and clicked Load. If you scroll all the way down the
glass styles have been added. These are now available
in the Styles palette. |

|
Another thing you can do is
make your own library of presets. Select the styles
you'd like in a new library. Select by shift clicking.
Then click the Save Set and enter a name. Just save
it in the default location so when you click load you
won't have to search for it. |

Now for the fun stuff, let's
apply a style to a button. You have a new file just
waiting for us to add something to it. Select
the Rounded Rectangle drawing tool and draw a rectangle.
I started with a black background. |

|
Click the check mark (commit
to layer) on the context sensitive toolbar |
8 |
|
Now the Styles choice is in
the context sensitive toolbar. Optionally you could
open the palette by going to the menu bar and choosing
Window>Show Styles |
9 |
|
If you use the styles from
the Context sensitive toolbar, click and drag the style
you want onto your button. If you use the styles palette,
simply click on your choice. I clicked on the teal
glass icon. |
