Photoshop 5.5
Special Effects

Open a texture or background you'd like
to work with. I choose a sand background I made.(See
the sand tutorial to make your own!) I want to make
this mountain and tree look more like a painting.
It's just a different effect. You can do this same
technique with someones' face. Then it looks like
they are emerging from the sand. It's a fun effect
to play around with. If you want to use the tree I
used, get it here

Go to File|Open and find the image and the background
you'd like to work with. With both open, seclect your
picture image.

Go to
channels, If your channels aren't open, go to Window|show
Channels. Now duplicate the green layer. To duplicate
- Click and drag the green channel on top of the layer
icon or right click on the green channel and choose
duplicate channel (name it whatever you wish). As
you can see, you now have a channel called Alpha 1
or whatever you named it.

Move
cursor over the image (move tool-v), when you see the
scissors - control click & and drag over to the sand
or your background image. Before you drop it - Shift and
drop. (This part can be a bit tricky, while still holding
the mouse down, release control, click shift and release
mouse.) |

There is
a bit of blue I don't care for, here is a guick way
to get rid of it. Go to layers and be sure your image
layer is chosen select the background eraser tool .
|
|
8 |
|
You may have
to change the Tolerance of your magic eraser. Double click
on the magic eraser and the menu will come up. I needed
to set mine at 55 to remove the blue line. |

|
9 |
|
Put the +
on the blue edge and click. If you have a similar problem
,you may need to play with the tolerance settings until
you get it just right. I increased the size so you could
see that the + touches the line. |

There is a bit of blue left, but it looks fine to
me. Now you can play around with other effects if you'd
like. Try setting the layer mode at hard light. |

I kind of like Multiply. |

|
|
|
There you have
it. Don't be afraid to experiment and try other effects.
