Artistic Tools

by Joyce Evans

We'll look at a couple of the Artistic tools and maybe it will get your own creative juices flowing. First we will make a simple party invitation or announcement.

1

Open a new image any size you'd like at 72 pixels if it's for the web.

2 Let's fill the background with a gradient. Click on the fill tool and look at the properties bar. You'll see the gradient icon and the edit button. Click on the edit button.

3 This is the dialog box you'll get. Under the type choose the type you want. In the color blend area, click the down arrow From and choose the color, To, click the down arrow and choose your second color. If you want the light color to be in a different place then put your cursor on the gradient square and just move it around. Click OK.

4 Type in your text, throw on a drop shadow (see the clip mask tutorial if you need further instruction on drop shadows)

5 Open the Artistic tools, Window|Dockers|Artistic tools and select the pool balls and place where ever you'd like.

6 Here is a logo I whipped together in no time for a kids site.

7

I used the brown rope from the Artistic Media and drew the capital letters. Using different layers (objects) I placed the elements together.

8

Here is a quickie title I made to utilize the Gears in the Artistic Media. You can adjust the size of the images sprayed on, use in a continuous line or click one at a time which I did here.

I used a gradient for the text, added a drop shadow and lowered the pixels to 4 and the blur to 4.

9 I was playing with the planet circles and connected them using the Clip Mask technique (see Clip Mask tutorial for full details).

I hope these examples help inspire you to use these fun tools!
