Cascading Style Sheets
The Designer's Edge
by Joyce J Evans
I started with this book to gain an understanding of basic CSS concepts. The teaching style for me was very clear. Molly has a great way of breaking things down in a manner that is understandable to new users of CSS.
In this book you'll learn how to write valid XHTML, write effective CSS rules, work with classes and IDs, validate your CSS, create typograhical designs, use absolute positioning, work with relative positioning and more.
The book begins with teaching you about the markup then some theory and in no time you are writing your own CSS. You'll learn how to use type, color and CSS positioning.
In the last section you'll see how to reconstruct a table based site and go pure CSS.
I consider this a basic CSS book to begin with. I've written reviews for my three favorite CSS books, be sure to check them all out. Get this one on your way out :-)
