Dreamweaver MX 2004 and Databases
by Joyce J Evans
I think this is the perfect book for someone who is already familiar with Dreamweaver but wants to move into working with databases. It's a quick and easy way to learn how to build dynamic pages. Dynamic pages are ones that are displayed to the user based on user input.
Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004 have the added ability to quickly build dynamic pages using several different server technologies. This book covers ASP.NET and ColdFusion. You'll learn not only how to build you database using Access and SQL server but also the logic behind it. You also learn how to setup your Dreamweaver workstation to build dynamic pages. You then learn how to setup the front end of the Web application--the page layout and templates.
The book also discusses the clients needs and the "modules" needed to complete the task. It then very succinctly walks you through the process of developing an intranet, extranet and Web application. This way you get to work on 3 different approaches. Some of the things you'll learn is how to setup a search, an online catalog, registration and login. You'll learn how to build an administration module that allows specific users to edit the pages, adding, deleting etc.
If you are new to building dynamic applications and are somewhat familiar with Dreamweaver already then I think this book is easy to use and understand. This book so far is the best I've found that teaches you not only how to build the database, set up relationships but also how to do it using Dreamweaver tools!
