Errata

By default when you open Dreamweaver you should see the Property inspector panel open below the document window. If you don't choose Window> Properties from the menu bar. Top expand or collapse the panel, click on the expander arrow.

Document tabs

When you have more then one file open there will be a tab with the document name on the bottom left side of the document.

Site panel instructions:

This isn't really a mistake but a Windows and Mac difference. If you are using a MAC, the screenshots for the Site panel won't look the same for you as it does in the book. To open the Site panel press F8. It is the full view of the panel as it appears in the open state for Windows users.

Windows XP Home Edition

PWS and IIS are not available to test dynamic pages locally if you use Windows XP Home Edition.

Step 16 should read, "Repeat step 15 for all the other links. For the word North, use a link of north.htm etc. leaving out the part about alternative text. Alternative text is only added to images.

There is mention of the Restore Down button. When you mouse over the squares next to the X in the top right of the document it says "Restore Down" this is the same as what is referred to maximize and minimize. This name (which I have nothing to do with) has caused a few problems for some people :-) I use Macromedia names otherwise even more people would be confused as they pass their mouse over items they want to identify.

Number 17 reads, "Repeat steps 10-13 for the right column." It should read, "Repeat steps 12-16 for the right column."

After step 21, press your right arrow key to be in the cell of the logo2.jpg image.
Click on No Wrap to select it. This will fix the alignment problem for Mac users and Mozilla browser.

Skip step 11, it's a repeat of step 8.

Chapter 10

This tutorial is causing a few people some trouble. It uses the PDG.dwt template page but was written for the training.htm page. During edits I changed it to PDG because I discovered you could not edit the timeline of a child page (training, design etc.) but I forgot to remove other instructions such as the -100 positioning which referred to the training.htm page. It doesn't affect the end result but it has caused some confusion. Following are some notes that should help out. Also for those that are having trouble getting their heads around timelines I've included a link to a movie I've made doing this tutorial.

If you'd rather skip this chapter you may and it won't affect the remaining part of the book. Just add the chapter 10 final files to your root folder and continue on.

Movie (22mg) of the "Making a Simple Animation" tutorial.

Step 11, after step 11, place your cursor inside the layer, open the Assets panel, select txt_training.gif and click the Insert button. This isn't absolutely necessary but the screenshots in the book show the image which you've added to the training page but not the template page,so it may help you in testing.

Step 12-disregard this step.

Step 19 - it's not errata but a note. When you resize a browser window in Netscape 4X it will not automatically refresh. You could click the refresh button or you can fix the problem by adding an extension to the page. Download ReDoIt from Project Seven (http://www.projectseven.com/extensions/index.htm) and install it. If you don't know how to install an extension, skip to page172. You'll see instructions on how to use this extension in the Extension Manager. This extension works in conjunction with the Netscape 4 Resize fix that Dreamweaver already has built in.

The mechanical.htm file is corrupt in the PDGFrames/pages folder. Copy the one from the Session13/pages folder and paste it back into the PDGFrames/pages folder to overwrite it.
